CET members' favorite songs from "Cabaret"
"Cabaret"
"[I like] 'CABARET' [BECAUSE] I LOVE HOW EMOTIONAL IT IS AND HOW IT SEEMS TOO SURFACE LEVEL BUT LOOKS INTO SALLY'S CONSCIOUSNESS. IT EXPLAINS WHY SHE DECIDES TO STAY IN BERLIN AND LIVE IN THE VIGNETTES BECAUSE 'LIFE IS A CABARET, OLD CHUM'," LILA FETTER said.
"Money"
"[I like] 'MONEY' BECAUSE IT'S FUNKY, EVIL AND SAD," FIA KACVINSKY said.
"HONESTLY, [MY FAVORITE 'CABARET' SONG] CHANGES AND I CAN'T REALLY SAY THAT I HAVE A FAVORITE. BUT, MAYBE 'MONEY' TODAY. IT COULD BE A DIFFERENT ONE TOMORROW," Emily WILSON-TOBIN Said.
"Maybe This Time"
"I LIKE 'MAYBE THIS TIME' BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE HOPEFUL EVEN THOUGH IT IS ALSO DEPRESSING," MALIA WEBER said.
"Two Ladies"
"I like 'Two Ladies' because it's such a fast and upbeat song. It also brings back memories of the dressing room in 'the Visit' when we would all shout 'Yah' during the song," Ebie Lamb said.
"Willkommen"
"I LIKE 'WILLKOMMEN' BECAUSE IT SWITCHES BETWEEN THREE LANGUAGES. IT ALSO WELCOMES PEOPLE TO THE SHOW AND ALSO CONCLUDES IT," MALCOLM LONDON said.
"['willkommen'] sets the tone for the show. It invites the audience into the parallel worlds of the Kit Kat Klub and early 1930s berlin, and sets up immediately the juxtaposition between the januty, Catchy tune on the surface and the darker themes of decay and decadence underneath. The show is intended to make the audience think carefully about modern social issues, and 'Willkommen' literally welcomes the audience into the reflection/relationship, but in a way that feels fun and funny," Sarah Hechler said.
"What Would You Do"
"I LIKE 'WHAT WOULD YOU DO' BECAUSE THE SONG REALLY HIGHLIGHTS HOW THE STORY HAS CHANGED AS Hitler grows in power, and how it is affecting all people. I also appreciate the humor that it has," Ria Lowenschuss said.
"Don't Tell Mama"
"I like 'don't tell mama' because it's funny and has a lot of drama," Abby Frank said.
"I Don't Care Much"
"I like 'I don't Care much' because it's the only song that the emcee has that doesn't really have an upbeat outward appearance," Gabriel Semarau said.
"If You Could See Her"
I like 'If you could See her' because it has a more silly tone, while also still having a swooning, cabaret-feel to it. The emcee's vocals really pull some of the lyrics together to create a bouncy rhythm that goes up and down a lot," bee Whalen said.
"Mein Herr"
"I like 'Mein Herr' because it's a bop, It's very Slay and it gives sexy-chair-dance vibes," Poppy Magee said.
"Entr'acte"
"I like 'Entr'acte' because anytime i'm in the mood to listen to 'cabaret', this is the only song I'll listen to. I don;t normally listen to the cast recordings of the show, but 'Entr'acte' gives you a great sampling of the show and has selections that encompass lots o different feelings. I'm also a band kid, so I love a number that has a strong band feel to it," Tate Zeleznik said.
